Blanche Nettles Powers
The studio practice of Blanche Nettles Powers is centered on painting and mixed-media work, engaging with materials in an improvisational manner. Her current work is influenced by fractal patterns found in the natural environment, and the grid warp and weft structure of fabric. Her method of art making is influenced by the Korean Dansaekhwa movement.
Recent solo exhibitions have been presented by Kim Foster Gallery of New York, Laney Contemporary of Savannah, and Savannah College of Art and Design. Juried group exhibitions include Artfields (South Lake, SC) and The Tallahassee International at FSU Museum of Fine Art (Tallahassee, FL). Nettles Powers has been selected for several artist residencies, including MASS MoCA (North Adams, MA), Vermont Studio Center (Johnson, VT), and SCAD’s NYC Studio Workspace (New York, NY). She has been awarded fellowships at Jentel Foundation (Banner, WY), and Anderson Ranch Art Center (Snowmass, CO). Nettles Powers has received painting commissions from Verge Yacht Design and SCAD. Her work is in collections of Memorial Health University Medical Center, Hotel Indigo, and Savannah College of Art and Design, as well as numerous private collections across the United States. Her work has been featured in The Week Magazine and MutualArt.
Blanche Nettles Powers earned an MFA in Painting from Savannah College of Art and Design, and an MEd in Art Education from Georgia Southern University. She was born in Rochester, Minnesota, and maintains her studio practice in Savannah, Georgia.
