BETSY CAIN
SATURATION
Exhibition Details
Laney Contemporary presents saturation, an immersive exhibition by artist Betsy Cain.
This solo exhibition will showcase her new series of drip figures and mossheads, large-scale abstract landscapes and figurative works which saturate the viewer with the feeling of the south.
Highlighting Cain’s uncanny ability to create a diverse range of works in a manner of her own style, through various expressions and a wide variety of media, the vision is purely Cain’s.
Based in Savannah for over thirty-five years, Cain draws inspiration from her southern surroundings of salt marsh, live oaks, spanish moss, and the almost visible humidity in the air.
“My work is a saturation of pigment and the visual field. Painting isn’t thinking, it’s mind/body flow and a channeling of spirit.”
Heavily rooted in abstractions with a figurative undertone, her paintings permeate the viewing plane. The large strokes and gestural motions create a meditative and pneumatic state for the viewer. The movement in Cain’s work speaks to the ebb and flow of the tidal waters in Savannah and her relationship with the salt marsh.
